Republic Day Celebrations Commence at Kartavya Path; President Murmu Unfurls Tricolour
India marked its 77th Republic Day today with grand ceremonial celebrations at Kartavya Path in New Delhi, led by President Droupadi Murmu. The national celebrations began with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the National War Memorial, where he paid homage to fallen soldiers by laying a wreath.
President Murmu arrived at Kartavya Path in a ceremonial buggy, accompanied by the chief guests for this year’s parade—President of the European Council Antonio Costa and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen. The President unfurled the national flag, followed by the singing of the national anthem and a 21-gun salute, formally inaugurating the Republic Day parade.
During the ceremony, President Murmu conferred India’s highest peacetime gallantry award, the Ashoka Chakra, on Indian Air Force Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, recognising exceptional courage and sacrifice in the line of duty.
The Republic Day parade showcased India’s military strength, cultural diversity, and constitutional values, reaffirming the nation’s commitment to democracy and unity.
