New Delhi, January 2, 2026 (PIB Delhi) — The Ministry of Ayush will inaugurate the 9th Siddha Day celebrations on January 3, 2026, at Kalaivanar Arangam, Chennai, highlighting the global relevance of India’s ancient Siddha system of medicine. National Siddha Day is observed every year on January 6.
The event is being organised in collaboration with the National Institute of Siddha (NIS), the Central Council for Research in Siddha (CCRS), and the Directorate of Indian Medicine and Homeopathy, Government of Tamil Nadu. The theme for this year’s celebration, “Siddha for Global Health,” underscores the growing international significance of the Siddha system in holistic healthcare. The occasion coincides with the birth anniversary of Sage Agastya, revered as the father of Siddha medicine.
The inaugural session will be presided over and inaugurated by the Vice President, with the presence of Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Ayush and Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Prataprao Jadhav. Other dignitaries include Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma. Subramanian, Ayush Secretary Padma Shri Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Dr. P. Senthil Kumar, Principal Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, Tamil Nadu, and M. Vijayalakshmi, Director of Indian Medicine and Homeopathy.
The programme will bring together Siddha physicians, scientists, academicians, scholars, and students from Tamil Nadu and other states. Researchers from NIS and CCRS, senior members of statutory Siddha bodies, and officials from the Ministry of Ayush and the Tamil Nadu government will also participate. Students from government and self-financing Siddha medical colleges in Tamil Nadu and Kerala are expected to attend in large numbers.
