National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and JCB International Co. Ltd. (JCBI), the international operations subsidiary of JCB Co. Ltd., jointly announced the launch of the RuPay JCB Global Card in India.
The newly launched card can be used at RuPay-enabled merchant locations within India and at JCB-enabled point-of-sale terminals and ATMs internationally. The launch marks the first issuance of a JCB-branded payment card in India.
Several Indian banks, including State Bank of India, Punjab National Bank, Axis Bank, Union Bank of India, Central Bank of India, Andhra Bank, City Union Bank, and TJSB Bank, were set to issue the RuPay JCB Global Cards.
The launch represented the second phase of the strategic partnership between NPCI and JCBI following the enablement of Indian POS terminals and ATMs for incoming foreign JCB cardholders in 2017. The initiative was aimed at catering to the increasing number of outbound Indian travellers.
As part of the launch campaign, NPCI and JCBI announced a cashback programme under which cardholders would receive 15 per cent cashback on international POS transactions. An additional 15 per cent cashback was offered in selected destinations popular among Indian travellers, including Thailand, Singapore, and United Arab Emirates, taking the total cashback benefit up to 30 per cent, subject to applicable terms and conditions.
JCB also highlighted international customer services available to cardholders, including access to JCB Plaza Lounge facilities in countries such as the United States, France, Taiwan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Thailand, and Singapore, along with JCB Plaza services in Japan.
