The President of India has appointed Shri Praveen Vashisht as a Vigilance Commissioner in the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC), in exercise of the powers conferred under Section 4(1) of the Central Vigilance Commission Act, 2003, through a warrant dated December 12, 2025, according to an official release issued by PIB Delhi on January 16, 2026.
Shri Vashisht assumed charge on January 16, 2026, after taking the oath of office and signing the oath of secrecy before the authorised Central Vigilance Commissioner, in accordance with Section 5(3) of the CVC Act, 2003.
A 1991-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Bihar cadre, Shri Vashisht brings with him over three decades of distinguished service across critical domains including law enforcement, internal security, crisis management, and administration.
During his career, he has served as Inspector General in the Economic Offences Unit and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Bihar. As Superintendent of Police, he handled law and order responsibilities in sensitive districts such as Ranchi, Dumka, and Garhwa. He has also served in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) as Superintendent of Police and Deputy Inspector General (DIG).
On central deputation, Shri Vashisht has held several key positions in the Ministry of Home Affairs, including Joint Secretary, Additional Secretary, Officer on Special Duty (OSD), and Special Secretary (Internal Security).
