Jaipur, March 7, 2026: The Department of Consumer Affairs has taken action against 26 firms across the state for violations related to net content in pre-packaged commodities, collecting a total penalty of ₹2,78,500.
According to officials, inspections were carried out under the Legal Metrology Act 2009 and the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules 2011 to ensure that consumers receive the correct weight and quantity in packaged products. The checks covered manufacturers and packers dealing in items such as spices, edible oil, flour, snacks, dairy cream, milk, and tea.
During the inspections, authorities found violations including absence of verification certificates and non-verified weights and measures. As a result, cases were registered against the firms and notices were issued on the spot, leading to the recovery of ₹2.78 lakh in penalties.
Officials said the inspections aim to encourage traders to maintain accurate measurement practices and to protect consumer interests. Ensuring the quality, standard, quantity, and correct measurement of goods and services purchased by consumers is a legal right under consumer protection laws.
