Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Mr. Avinash Gehlot stated that the government is committed to ensuring equal opportunities for education, skill development, and employment, along with easy access to healthcare services, housing, and social security for the transgender community.
Mr. Gehlot was speaking on Tuesday at the meeting of the Rajasthan Transgender Welfare Board. He emphasized that under the sensitive leadership of Chief Minister Mr. Bhajanlal Sharma, this is not merely an issue concerning one section of society, but a matter intrinsically linked to human dignity, equality, and social justice.
The Minister said that the transgender community has always been an integral part of society. The recognition of transgender persons as the third gender by the Hon’ble Supreme Court is a significant achievement of India’s democracy. He noted that the Rajasthan Transgender Welfare Board was constituted in 2016, and the state government will make every possible effort to protect the rights of transgender persons, facilitate the issuance of maximum identity certificates, and ensure that they receive the respect and dignity they rightfully deserve in society.
During the meeting, discussions were held with Board members on providing appropriate guidance to government departments for studying and resolving issues faced by the transgender community, as well as for the formulation, implementation, and operation of new welfare schemes. Deliberations were also conducted on the effective implementation of the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019 and the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Rules, 2020. Additionally, the meeting focused on linking transgender individuals with schemes of various departments, ensuring they receive benefits, and addressing and resolving their grievances.
