A delegation led by Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot, Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, will depart today for Buenos Aires, Argentina to participate in the 2nd Global Disability Summit, scheduled from 6th to 8th June 2019. The delegation includes Smt Shankutala Gamlin, Secretary, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), Dr. Prabodh Seth, Joint Secretary, DEPwD, and Shri Neeraj Semwal, Private Secretary to the Minister.
The summit aims to address global challenges related to the empowerment and inclusion of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) and to formulate mechanisms that enable PwDs to lead independent and dignified lives. Shri Gehlot had also represented India at the inaugural summit held in London in July 2018.
Following the summit, the delegation will engage in bilateral discussions with the Government of Argentina on 9th and 10th June 2019 to explore the development of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation between the two nations in the field of disability empowerment.
