Updated: April 13, 2026
Indian stock markets will remain closed on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, on account of Dr B.R. Ambedkar Jayanti, making this a holiday-shortened trading week for Dalal Street. The closure is part of the official 2026 NSE and BSE holiday calendar, where April 14 is listed as a trading holiday.
The holiday will impact all major exchange segments, including:
- Equity cash market
- Equity derivatives
- Currency derivatives
- Securities lending and borrowing (SLB)
This comes after markets were already shut for multiple sessions earlier this month due to Mahavir Jayanti and Good Friday, increasing the number of non-trading days in April.
MCX to resume in evening session
While equity markets will stay shut for the full day, the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will remain closed during the morning session and resume trading from 5:00 PM in the evening session.
This means traders in:
- Gold
- Silver
- Crude oil
- Natural gas
- Base metals
will be able to trade during the evening commodity window.
In contrast, NCDEX will remain closed for both sessions on Ambedkar Jayanti.
Next stock market holiday
After Ambedkar Jayanti, the next trading holiday for NSE and BSE will be Maharashtra Day on May 1, 2026.
