India Has Adequate Food Grain Storage Capacity, Says Ram Vilas Paswan
Ram Vilas Paswan, former Union Minister for Food and Consumer Affairs, stated that India has sufficient storage capacity for central pool food grains at the national level.
Responding to a query in the Rajya Sabha, Paswan said the total storage capacity available for central pool stocks exceeds 862 lakh tonnes.
He further informed that the Food Corporation of India (FCI) currently operates 2,068 godowns for storing central pool food grains across the country.
Government Initiatives to Enhance Storage
The minister also highlighted that the government is actively implementing multiple schemes to strengthen storage infrastructure, including the construction of modern godowns and silos based on evolving requirements.
