Under the Kashi–Tamil Sangamam 4.0 initiative, Tamil language classes are being conducted in 50 schools across the district as part of the special campaign ‘Tamil Karkalam’ (Let’s Learn Tamil). As many as 50 teachers from Tamil Nadu are actively teaching students the basics of the Tamil language.
The participating institutions include secondary and primary schools, along with private and convent schools. Classes are being conducted in two shifts daily, ensuring maximum student participation.
Five Tamil Words Taught Daily for 15 Days
Students are being taught five new Tamil words every day as part of the 15-day special training programme. Along with spoken Tamil, students are also being introduced to Tamil script, vowels, consonants, and basic sentence formation.
Daily-use sentences such as:
What is your name?
Which school do you study in?
My name is…
are being taught with correct Tamil pronunciation.
Special Classes Draw Strong Student Response
A special two-hour class was organised at Bengali Tola Inter College, where students learned both spoken and written Tamil. Students said that a large number of tourists from Tamil Nadu visit their neighbourhood, and learning Tamil will help them communicate better and understand visitors more effectively.
Many students described the initiative of the Ministry of Education as extremely beneficial and practical.
A Living Example of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’
Organised under the initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Kashi–Tamil Sangamam has emerged as a powerful symbol of cultural integration between North and South India. Participants say the spirit of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’ is clearly visible in this event.
The two-week-long programme, which began on December 2, is strengthening cultural and intellectual ties between Tamil Nadu and Kashi.
