The Vice President of India, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu, will attend the convocation ceremony of the National School of Drama (NSD) on 5th August 2019 at the Abhimanch Auditorium, NSD, New Delhi at 5:00 pm. More than 200 students who completed their three-year course at NSD between 2010 and 2019 will be awarded diplomas by the Vice President.
The Vice President will be the Chief Guest at the convocation, while the Minister of State for Culture & Tourism (I/C), Shri Prahlad Singh Patel, will be the Guest of Honour. Secretary, Ministry of Culture, Shri Arun Goel; former Chairman of NSD, Shri Chandrashekhara Kambara; and theatre personality and former NSD Director, Shri Ratan Thiyam, will also grace the occasion. Acting Chairman, NSD Society, Dr. Arjun Deo Charan, and Director In-charge, NSD, Shri Suresh Sharma, will also be present.
A total of 237 students will receive diplomas after completing the dramatic arts programme at NSD. The institution is among the foremost theatre training institutes in the world and was recently ranked 14th among the best film schools globally by CEOWORLD Magazine.

Established in 1959, NSD is an autonomous organisation fully funded by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. It is one of India’s premier theatre training institutes and was originally set up under the Sangeet Natak Akademi before becoming independent in 1975. It offers a three-year full-time residential programme in theatre arts, focusing on both theory and practical training. Its alumni include prominent playwrights, actors, directors, designers, and music directors who have contributed significantly to Indian theatre and other art forms.
