A meeting of the Council of Ministers was held on Tuesday at Mantralaya under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav.
₹1 Crore Assistance for the Family of Late Inspector Ashish Sharma
The Council of Ministers approved financial assistance of ₹1 crore to the family of Late Inspector (Special Armed Force) Shri Ashish Sharma of the Hawk Force, Balaghat, who attained martyrdom during an anti-Naxal operation on 19 November 2025.
It was also decided to provide compassionate appointment to his younger brother Shri Ankit Sharma as Sub-Inspector in the District Police Force.
Late Inspector Ashish Sharma was known for his exceptional talent, bravery, and dedication. He was awarded the President’s Gallantry Medal twice. Earlier, he received the Chief Minister’s Internal Service Medal in 2021 and the Durgam Seva Medal in 2023. In 2023, he was also granted out-of-turn promotion by the State Government.
The meeting began with the recital of Vande Mataram.
Approval to Present Bill on Direct Election of Municipal & Nagar Parishad Presidents
The Council of Ministers also approved the proposal to present a Bill in the Legislative Assembly for conducting direct elections for the posts of Presidents of Municipal Councils (Nagar Palika) and Nagar Parishads.
It may be noted that from 1999 to 2014, these elections were conducted through the direct voting system by the electorate. In 2022, the elections for these posts were held through the indirect system, wherein elected ward councillors elected the President. However, the election of Mayor continues to be conducted through direct voting by the public.
