Sanand, Gujarat: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 4, 2026, inaugurated CG Semi's state-of-the-art Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) plant in Sanand, Gujarat, describing it as the next milestone in India's rapidly expanding electronics manufacturing ecosystem.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Union Minister for Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, and senior global technology industry leaders.
Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister said the new semiconductor facility marks the next phase of India's electronics revolution, following the country's emergence as the world's second-largest mobile phone manufacturer.
He said the CG Semi OSAT plant will strengthen India's domestic semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem, enhance technological self-reliance, and reinforce the country's position in the global semiconductor value chain.
Modi expressed confidence that Sanand will evolve into a major global semiconductor hub, adding that the government is simultaneously working towards self-reliance in critical and strategic minerals while developing a resilient domestic semiconductor supply chain.
Describing the initiative as part of the vision of Viksit Bharat, the Prime Minister said the project represents the next phase of the Make in India programme, aimed at transforming India into a global manufacturing and technology powerhouse.
