Fulfilling a key promise from the 2025–26 state budget, the Chhattisgarh government has granted administrative approval of ₹46.49 crore for the construction of an Integrated Food and Drug Testing Laboratory-cum-FDA Building in Nava Raipur. The project has been approved in line with Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai’s vision to significantly strengthen food and drug testing infrastructure in the state.
A 1.5-acre campus has been allotted in Nava Raipur for the establishment of the new facility. Currently, the food and drug testing laboratory in Raipur operates in a limited space of around 5,000 sq. ft. across three floors. The proposed laboratory will be a major upgrade, expanding to 30,000 sq. ft. spread across the ground, first, second, and third floors, and equipped with advanced testing technologies for drug and enforcement applications.
Testing Capacity to Increase Manifold
With the construction of the new integrated lab:
Chemical testing capacity will rise from the current 500–800 samples per year to 7,000–8,000 samples per year.
Microbiological testing of injections, eye drops, etc., will reach 2,000 samples annually.
Medical devices such as gloves and catheters—currently not tested in the state—will be tested up to 500 samples per year.
Pharmaceutical sample testing will increase from 50 samples per year to 1,000 samples per year.
Officials stated that this expansion will bring greater reliability, transparency, and speed to sample testing processes across the state.
Health Minister Expresses Gratitude, Calls It a Landmark for Public Health
Health Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal expressed gratitude to CM Sai for the approval, noting that the upcoming laboratory would significantly strengthen the state’s food safety framework.
He said the new facility would make testing processes “simpler, more transparent, and more efficient,” reinforcing the state’s commitment to ensuring safe, certified, and high-quality food products and medicines for the public.
He added that the modern lab in Nava Raipur will serve as a model testing facility, playing a crucial role in enhancing Chhattisgarh’s public health infrastructure.
