Delhi Police has put in place extensive traffic restrictions and diversions to ensure the smooth conduct of the Republic Day parade and associated cultural events in the national capital. The ceremonial parade is being held along its traditional route from Vijay Chowk to the Red Fort, with special arrangements aimed at maintaining public safety and minimising congestion.
Commuters have been advised to plan their travel well in advance and avoid Central Delhi during restricted hours. Traffic restrictions, which came into force last night, will remain effective throughout the duration of the parade. Kartavya Path has been completely closed to traffic until the parade concludes, and no crossings are permitted between Vijay Chowk and India Gate until 2:00 pm. Additionally, the C-Hexagon near India Gate has been closed to traffic from 9:15 am onwards.
Vehicular movement on key arterial roads including Tilak Marg, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, and Netaji Subhash Marg has been diverted from 10:30 am. Delhi Police has urged citizens to avoid the parade route and surrounding areas unless travel is essential, and to follow advisories on restricted zones and alternate routes.
To facilitate public movement, Delhi Metro commenced services at 3:00 am across all lines today. Trains are operating at 15-minute intervals until 6:00 am, after which the regular schedule will apply. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has encouraged passengers to utilise the early services to reach Kartavya Path and avoid last-minute inconvenience.
