Bridging the gap between education and employability
Often, there exists a wide gap between the knowledge imparted in engineering and technical institutions and the skills required by the industry. While most engineering colleges, polytechnics, and ITIs focus on theoretical learning, students often miss out on hands-on exposure to live equipment and instruments.
To address this challenge and create a skilled, employable workforce for the power and allied sectors, Tata Power’s Skill Development Institute (TPSDI) was established in 2015. Since then, TPSDI has trained over 69,700 individuals, placing strong emphasis on practical, hands-on training.
From Blue-Collar Skilling to Global Expertise
TPSDI began with a vision to upskill blue-collar workers and underprivileged sections of society in India. Over the years, the institute has expanded its offerings significantly — training over 3,400 engineering students across its five training centres, while also providing specialized training to professionals from corporate and government sectors.
The institute has extended its impact internationally, conducting training programs in Ethiopia and Liberia, in addition to its domestic initiatives.
