The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has urged citizens to report spam calls and SMS through the TRAI DND App, emphasizing that simply blocking numbers on personal devices does not stop spam at the source.
Over the past year, TRAI, acting on citizen complaints, has disconnected and blacklisted more than 21 lakh mobile numbers and around one lakh entities involved in sending spam and fraudulent messages. This large-scale action highlights the importance of collective reporting in curbing telecom misuse nationwide.
The TRAI DND App allows users to report spam, enabling the authority and telecom providers to trace, verify, and permanently disconnect offenders. In contrast, blocking numbers on a phone only hides them on that device and does not prevent scammers from contacting others.
Public Advisory from TRAI:
Download the TRAI DND App and report spam calls/SMS instead of just blocking numbers.
Avoid sharing personal or banking details over calls, messages, or social media.
Disconnect immediately if receiving threatening or suspicious calls.
Report cyber frauds to the National Cybercrime Helpline (1930) or www.cybercrime.gov.in.
Use Sanchar Saathi’s “Chakshu” feature to report misuse of telecom resources.
TRAI remains committed to a safe, secure, and trustworthy telecom environment, relying on technology-driven monitoring and public participation to stop spam at the source.
