On the occasion of the Annual Function of Jamia Senior Secondary School held yesterday at Jamia Millia Islamia's (JMI) Dr. M.A. Ansari Auditorium, Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, Hon'ble Union Minister of State for Education, in a video message congratulated the university and school administration for adapting the NEP 2020 in letter and in spirit. He said, "I am pleased to note that Jamia has aligned its curriculum with NEP 2020 by integrating value-based education, Indian knowledge systems, skill development, digital literacy, scientific temper, innovation, AI awareness, and entrepreneurship, preparing students to lead India towards the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047."
Urging students to respect their teachers and parents, Dr. Majumdar said, "Dear students, success is not measured only by the marks or ranks but by character, integrity, resilience, and your willingness to serve the society. Dream big, work hard, respect your teachers and parents, and use education as a tool, not just for personal success, but for national transformation. Parents and teachers play a crucial role in nurturing young minds, and their partnership is essential for children's holistic growth. I acknowledge their dedication and unwavering support in shaping the next generation."
Noting the importance of training the future generations for national development and progress, Dr. Majumdar said, "As India moves forward with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, today's students will be the leaders, innovators, and responsible citizens of tomorrow. With the strong foundation being laid through national education reforms, I am confident that our young learners will rise to this responsibility."
"Under the visionary leadership of Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji, school education has been placed at the center of national development. The National Education Policy 2020 has reimagined education through competency-based learning, experiential pedagogy, multilingualism, and holistic growth. Initiatives such as Samagra Shiksha, NIPUN Bharat, PM SHRI School, Diksha, PM e-Vidya, and Vidya Samiksha Kendra are strengthening infrastructure, improving learning outcomes, empowering teachers, and leveraging technology to make education inclusive, joyful, and future-ready." Honorable Union Minister Dr. Majumdar ji said.
Following a soulful recitation of a verse from the Holy Qur'an and a rendition of the Jamia Tarana, the school principal, Dr. Mohd Arshad Khan, presented the annual report 2025-26 and delivered the welcome address. He presented a brief report of the academic activities of the school and academic achievements of the last year, including participation in the NSS activities which was inaugurated for school students last year by Prof. Mazhar Asif, Vice Chancellor, JMI.
Colorful cultural presentations, highlights of which were a qawwali and a Bengali dance performance, were followed by a prize distribution ceremony in which academic and non-academic awards were given to toppers under various categories.
Registrar, JMI, Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi, the guest of honour on the occasion reiterated the message of the Union minister Shri Majumdar ji and expressed deep gratitude to him for his continuous support to JMI. Prof. Rizvi extended his best wishes to all those students who will be appearing in the upcoming School Boards. He also commended the school teachers and staff for providing a strong foundation that has helped nurture students’ abilities.
Highlighting their achievements, Prof. Rizvi remarked that by excelling across various streams of study and securing top ranks in national-level competitive examinations, Jamia Senior Secondary School students have set a benchmark for their juniors. He expressed confidence that Jamia schools are well-positioned to compete with the best schools in Delhi and emphasized that they should "soon emerge as role models by setting new standards in both academic excellence and co-curricular activities".
Vice Chancellor, JMI, Prof Mazhar Asif, reciting a beautiful poem by Bulle Shah, in his presidential remarks, expressed gratitude to the honorable minister for the valuable words conveyed in his video. Stating that the best is yet to come, he congratulated the school for a brilliant performance. Prof. Asif said that Jamia schools are working hard to successfully align their curriculum with NEP 2020, a move that will strengthen the integration of skill-based and value-based education from the foundational years of learning. He further added that the Jamia administration is actively working toward securing national and international recognition for its schools, and said that discussions were already underway with officials from the Ministry of Education. Emphasizing student well-being, Prof Asif added that "the focus of the administration is on creating safe and secure school environments where young minds can be nurtured to realize their fullest potential."
The annual magazine of the Jamia Senior Secondary School, Payam-e-Taleem 2026, was also released on the occasion. It is worth noting that the magazine has been printed by the Jamia Press of the Office of Controller of Examinations, JMI under the guidance of the Controller of Examinations, JMI, Prof. Ahteshamul Haque.
The function was attended by the university officials, the Controller of Examinations, the Chief Proctor, Prof. Asad Malik and his team, Dean of Students' Welfare, Prof. Neelofer Afzal, Deans of Faculties, Heads of Department, Directors of Centres, Provosts of Boys and Girls Hostels of JMI, Principals of all Jamia schools, school teachers, faculty members, university staff and a large number of school students.
