Jaipur, May 15:
The Rajasthan government will launch the statewide ‘Vande Ganga’ Water Conservation Public Campaign 2026 from May 25 to June 5 with a focus on water conservation, rainwater harvesting, protection of traditional water bodies, and environmental sustainability.
To ensure successful implementation of the campaign at the district level, a review meeting was held on Thursday at the Collectorate Auditorium under the chairmanship of District Collector Sandesh Nayak.
The District Collector said the campaign would be implemented as a public movement with extensive community participation across the district. He directed all departments to work in coordination and prepare activity-based plans for every gram panchayat and urban local body.
Focus on Public Participation, Cleanliness and Environmental Activities
Officials were instructed to organise:
- shramdaan activities,
- cleanliness drives,
- plantation programmes,
- water source cleaning,
- awareness rallies,
- prabhat pheris,
- and community participation-based events during the campaign.
The administration has also called for active participation from:
- voluntary organisations,
- educational institutions,
- social organisations,
- youth groups,
- and local residents.
Water Bodies, Canals and Rainwater Harvesting Projects in Focus
The Water Resources Department will undertake multiple activities under the campaign, including:
- worship and conservation activities at rivers, dams, lakes, and canals,
- cleaning of canals and water channels with support from farmers,
- programmes under the Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain initiative,
- public participation-based water conservation drives,
- foundation stone laying ceremonies,
- land worship rituals,
- inspection and inauguration of completed projects.
Awareness Drives, Kalash Yatras and Plantation Activities Planned
Under the campaign, several public outreach and awareness initiatives will be organised, including:
- Vande Ganga Prabhat Pheris,
- Vande Ganga Kalash Yatras,
- Peepal tree worship and plantation drives,
- eco-friendly local product exhibitions,
- street plays on water conservation,
- public pledge ceremonies,
- and worship of newly developed Amrit Sarovars.
Preparatory work under the Hariyalo Rajasthan initiative, identification of grazing lands and forest areas, and water conservation works under the VBG Ram Ji Scheme will also be undertaken.
‘Karmabhoomi Se Matrabhumi’ Campaign Activities to Be Reviewed
Officials said activities under the Karmabhoomi Se Matrabhumi campaign will also be reviewed during the programme, while approvals for new development works will be issued.
Special gram sabhas will be organised across the district on May 26 where:
- new development works will be approved,
- administrative sanctions will be issued,
- and villagers will be administered a pledge for water conservation and environmental protection.
Cleanliness Campaigns at Public Institutions
The campaign will include cleanliness drives at:
- gaushalas,
- veterinary hospitals,
- dairy unions,
- railway stations,
- bus stands,
- agricultural mandis,
- public places,
- and drinking water sources.
Additionally, seminars and discussions on water conservation will be organised with various organisations, while the Public Health Engineering Department will conduct a special water testing campaign.
