The flood situation in Maharashtra and Karnataka remains serious due to continuous heavy rainfall and controlled release of water from major reservoirs.
The Indian Army is actively assisting state authorities in ongoing relief and rescue operations in flood-affected areas.
As of 7 August 2019:
16 columns and 12 Engineer Task Forces, comprising nearly 1,000 personnel, have been deployed
Operations are underway in:
Karnataka: Belgaum, Bagalkot, Raichur districts
Maharashtra: Raigad, Kolhapur, Sangli districts
Relief operations
Around 500 people have been rescued so far
Relief provided includes medical aid and food packets
Villages currently under active rescue operations include:
Raigad: Birwadi, Asankoli
Sangli/Kolhapur region: Mouje Digraj, Haripur, Nandre
More than 1,200–1,300 people are reported to be stranded in these villages. Despite difficult weather conditions and continuous rainfall, evacuation efforts continue in coordination with the National Disaster Response Force and civil administration.
