In line with the Make in India initiative of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Mini Ratna Defence Public Sector Undertaking India Optel Limited (IOL) has signed a collaboration agreement with Safran Electronics & Defense to develop two mission-critical combat-enabling systems in India, paving the way for their indigenous development and production.
The two advanced combat systems covered under the agreement are:
Sigma 30N Digital Ring Laser Gyro Inertial Navigation System, used in artillery, air defence systems, missiles, and radars; and
CM3-MR Direct Firing Sight, designed for artillery and counter-drone systems.
The collaboration agreement was signed on December 22, 2025, in New Delhi, in the presence of Secretary, Department of Defence Production, Shri Sanjeev Kumar, Chairman & Managing Director of IOL, Shri Tushar Tripathi, and Head of the Global Defence Business Unit, Safran Electronics & Defense, Shri Alexandre Ziegler.
This agreement builds upon the Memorandum of Understanding signed in January 2024 and reaffirms the commitment of both partners to the development and long-term support of these advanced systems in India. Under the partnership, India Optel Limited will be responsible for the development, final assembly, testing, quality assurance, and lifecycle support of the systems, ensuring they meet the operational requirements of the Indian Armed Forces.
The collaboration combines IOL’s industrial capabilities in India with Safran Electronics & Defense’s globally recognized expertise in inertial navigation and fire-control technologies. This partnership is expected to strengthen India’s defence manufacturing ecosystem while enhancing the operational readiness and performance of the Indian Army.
